UK and Irish component manufacturers may well know us best for our Lynx and Puma lathes…our DNM and Mynx 3-axis vertical machining centres…and our SMX mill-turn machines.

But there’s much more to the Doosan machine tool range than you might think...or expect.

Our ‘Strokes of Genius’ emailer series is intended to bring you up to speed with Doosan machines that may be less familiar to you, but which are equally innovative and technically excellent.

Doosan’s BM double column machining centres

Doosan Machine Tools’ BM range of Double-Column Machining Centres features big, powerful, rigid and high-precision machines.

There are 3 different sized machines in the ‘M’ series (BM 1530M; BM 2035M; BM 2740M), as well as the BM 2740U - which is a full simultaneous 5-axis model.

All ‘M’ series machines are equipped with low-vibration, built-in and dual-contact (ISO/BT50) spindles up to 25-30kW/12,000rpm. These spindles are ‘long nose’ types and protrude 293mm enabling them to machine (and get in and out of) deep pockets and cavities.

The BM 2740U is a bridge-type machine with a symmetrical double-column structure and is equipped with a 2-axis universal head system providing +/- 110 degree B-axis and +/-220 degree C-axis capabilities.

The spindle on the BM 2740U is powerful and fast (40kW/18,000rpm), and has the HSK-63A spindle:tooling interface.

To ensure long-lasting precision, the BM machines are equipped with roller LM guideways and linear scales on all axes, and feature a ball screw nut and bearings’ cooling system which, in conjunction with the latest thermal sensor technology, reduces the effects of thermal displacement.

Accuracy and vibration-reduced machining is further ensured from Doosan’s patented base casting design and by anchoring BM machines to the floor during installation.

BM machines (irrespective of the model) have large Y-axis capabilities for increased flexibility, large tables (up to 4000mm x 2500mm for the BM 2740U) and can handle heavy loads (up to 15,000kg).

The machines' productivity potential is further enhanced via their large quick-change CAM-type tool changers (40/60 tool capacity) for the ‘M’ series, and 60-position chain-type ATC on the BM 2740U.

‘M’ series machines are equipped with the latest Fanuc 31i-B control with the Doosan Easy Operation Package (EOP) for quick job set-up and operation. The BM 2740U is supplied with the Heidenhain iTNC 530 control.
